DayZ Wipe Schedule

How to wipe a DayZ server without lying about it: what resets, what stays, and how to say so in public.

A wipe is a decision about which stored world you are throwing away. Players say "wipe" and mean their character, their base, the loot on the floor, or all three. If you only reset types and leave tents, you did not do the thing they heard. Write the list: characters, persistence, economy, or the whole profile. Post the time in one zone and the UTC equivalent. Then do that thing, not a surprise extra.

The cadence is a design choice. Weekly wipes create a server for people who like the early week. Monthly wipes create a server for people who build. Never wiping creates a server for people who already won. All three can be popular. All three become a scam if the hostname says "weekly" and the last wipe was in March. The server list will not check your calendar. Your regulars will. Put the next wipe in the hostname or in the first line of the Discord, and remove it from the hostname when the date is wrong. Stale dates are worse than no date.

How you wipe depends on what you hosted. Persistence files, the hive, and the mission storage are different trees. Deleting the wrong one is how you "wipe" and keep every base, or wipe and also destroy the mod keys. Read persistence once before the first public wipe. Practice on a test folder if this is your first server. A test wipe that ruins nobody is the only tutorial that matters.

Restarts are not wipes. A restart schedule brings the process back. A wipe deletes state. Announce them with different words. CFTools Cloud can own the restart and the RCon message that precedes it. The wipe itself is still a file operation on the host, which is CFTools Architect if that is where the dedicated server lives. Do the file operation with the process stopped. Deleting storage out from under a live mission is how you corrupt the thing you meant to erase cleanly.

After the wipe, join the server yourself before you open the slots to the full community. Confirm the coast is empty of last week's tents, the character is new if you promised that, and the mods still load. Then look at the server page on DayZ Manager. Player count will be low. That is the point of the first hour. If you fake the count, the CFTools index will treat the server as spoofed and the rank you wanted will not exist. There is no appeal form here.

Map choice changes how a wipe feels. A Chernarus wipe is a known coast. A Livonia or Sakhal wipe is a smaller crowd that notices details. Mod maps need the mod present on wipe day or the fresh world is a crash. Tie the wipe post to the mod list if you updated mods in the same window. One announcement, two facts, no surprise.

Say what dies, then delete only that

A wipe post needs nouns. Characters. Tents and bases. The whole profile. "Full wipe" is acceptable if you mean all of them, and dishonest if you mean you restarted. Put the UTC time and the local time. After it happens, edit the hostname so yesterday's date is not still a promise on the server list. The list will not expire your adjective for you.

Stop the process before you delete. Deleting storage under a live mission corrupts the fresh world you wanted. Take the copy first, even if you believe you will never roll back. The rollback is how you survive deleting the wrong folder. CFTools Architect hosts the files. You still have to point at the right ones. CFTools Cloud can warn players and restart. It should not be the thing that selects directories. Your hand does that, once, while you are awake.

Join before you invite the Discord. The coast should match the promise. A leftover base means you wiped the hive and not persistence, or the opposite of what you told people. Fix it before the population arrives, even if it makes you late. Late and honest beats on-time and wrong. Look at the community page only after you can spawn and see the empty start. A vanilla wipe and a modded wipe fail differently. Modded wipes also need the Workshop list to load, or the fresh world crashes and you have an outage shaped like a launch.

Weekly, monthly, and never are all defensible. Changing the cadence every time a donator complains is not. Pick one, run it twice, and let people build a habit. If a mod author demands a wipe for an update, fold it into the date you already published or announce a one-off with the same nouns. Do not stack a surprise wipe on a routine restart. The chart will show the population leaving either way. The difference is whether they come back. Servers on the map pages that keep their players after a wipe are the ones who deleted exactly what they named.

Questions

Does a restart wipe bases?

No. A restart starts the process again. A wipe deletes characters, persistence, or both, on purpose.

Should the hostname include the wipe date?

Only if you will change the hostname when the date changes. A wrong date is a broken promise.

Can I wipe from CFTools Cloud?

Cloud manages the live server and restarts. Deleting persistence is a file change on the host, which is Architect if Architect is hosting the dedicated server.
