Chernarus, Livonia, or Sakhal

Chernarus, Livonia, and Sakhal are the official terrains. The server record uses chernarusplus, enoch, and sakhal. If you search the pretty names and the list looks empty, you searched the wrong string. The map pages for Chernarus, Livonia, and Sakhal are the live lists.

Chernarus is the default mental model of DayZ: a long coast, inland cities, enough space that a full server can still feel quiet. It has the most community history and the most servers, including the most servers that are copies of each other. Use it when you want the coast everyone can describe, or when your friends already know the map and will not relearn a border. It is also the easiest map to be lost and alone on. If you wanted constant contact, a full Chernarus server is the fix, not a different understanding of the coast.

Livonia is smaller and more inland in spirit, with a military story baked into the terrain. People meet more often at the same population. The token is enoch, which confuses anyone who only heard the spoken name. It is a good second map when Chernarus has become a commute. It is a bad first map only if your whole group still thinks in coastal spawns and will quit when the landmark is unfamiliar. Give it a real session before you decide it is "empty." Empty Livonia and empty Chernarus are different sizes of empty.

Sakhal is cold. Temperature is a mechanic you can ignore on a mild Chernarus night and cannot ignore here. That is the reason to choose it and the reason players bounce. If the server added mods that remove the cold, you are not playing Sakhal as designed. Check the mod list on the page. A vanilla Sakhal server on the vanilla roster is the clean test. A heavily modded one is a different product that uses the island as a floor.

None of these three require a community map download. Community maps are a separate choice, covered in maps explained, Namalsk, and Deer Isle. Do not let a tier list online tell you Sakhal replaced Chernarus. The roster counts real servers. Chernarus is still where a lot of people are. Sakhal is where people went for the cold. Livonia is where people went to see someone.

Ping beats romance. A Livonia server in your country is a better night than a Chernarus server that looks famous and plays like a slideshow. Filter the map page by the country you can actually use. Cross-pages exist for busy pairs.

If you host, pick one and stay until you can fill it. Rotating official maps every weekend trains nobody and strands bases. CFTools Architect will run whichever mission you set. Your players will not automatically follow. Announce the map in the hostname in words humans use, and keep the mission file in agreement so the crawler and the name tell one story. CFTools Cloud does not choose the terrain. It keeps the server manageable after you choose.

Choose with the list, not with a trailer

Chernarus is the space and the memory. You already know the coast, or you will, because everyone can describe it. It hides groups. If your group is small, you can play for an hour and see nobody, then call the game dead. It was the map. A full server fixes that more reliably than a different attitude. Look at player counts on the facet before you blame the coast.

Livonia puts the same people closer together. The token will not match the spoken name, so use the facet rather than a hostname search. It is the right second map when Chernarus has become a commute between towns you can draw from memory. Give it a full session. A twenty-minute impression from the wrong spawn is not a review.

Sakhal adds cold as a job. If you do not want that job, do not let a trailer talk you into it. If a server removes the cold with mods, you are on a modded Sakhal, which is a different product. The vanilla Sakhal rows are the honest test of the official terrain. Read the mod list before you praise or condemn the island.

Ping still wins. A Livonia server in your country beats a famous Chernarus server you cannot shoot straight on. The country filter on the way into the facet is the grown-up version of a versus article. Official versus community is the other cut: official if you want the default hive, community if you want a wipe and a ban. CFTools Cloud matters only if you are the one providing the ban. As a player, pick the terrain you will still want after the trailer ends, on a server that is awake tonight. The stable roster will still be there if you chose wrong. You can move. Your base on the first map will not.
